The Grand – Eastbourne

FullSizeRender (5)Down on the coast of East Sussex, you will find the large town of Eastbourne, a lovely seaside resort that some locals say ‘has the best weather in the UK’.

This stand out, ‘Grand ‘, stunning hotel stands proudly on the seafront and boasts a manor of beautiful rooms, afternoon tea’s, superb food and second to none staff. It can be proud of it’s 5-star rating. It is a luxury for sure. This is one of the largest of the Elite Hotels group, and one of my favourites and is ‘affectionately known as The White Palace’ and you will see why. It is the largest and only 5 star hotel on the seafront.

I have been lucky enough to stay here on two occasions and I have not been let down.

My favourite part of this Victorian property, is the entrance. Through the revolving doors, into the large hallway. The staff all give you a warm welcome. Something I had noticed, every member of staff will say hello at all times of the day in every part of the hotel. It’s a lovely touch. The whole place has a friendly, inviting feel to it. With its classically decorated rooms and vast amount of space. The Grand has both an outdoor and an indoor swimming pool, a gym and a fantastic spa. I treated myself to a back massage whilst I was there and it was delightful, to say the least. I could also hear the seagulls outside which actually added to the relaxing massage. I do love a treat now and again.

The hotel can cater anything from a one night break, to a huge conference or event. They have everything covered and the staff know their stuff. They were super attentive during both of my stays.

What is the food like, I hear you say…..
Breakfast, is served in the Garden Restaurant. They have a hot buffet, with cereals and pastries, a selection of juices and cheeses. They can also do you a cooked breakfast of your choice. I recommend the poached eggs with brown toast and marmite 🙂
We dined in the Mirabelle restaurant and again, had very attentive and friendly staff. The food here was incredible. We had started with a cocktail (that wasn’t on the menu) a raspberry mojito, this was yummy. With this, we were given some pre-dinner snacks of olives and vegetables crisps. They then brought over some canapes which were little mouthfuls of heaven. Once we were walked through to the Mirabelle, we sat down with a bottle of wine, recommended by the head waiter, and were brought our food. Scallops to start – 10/10, lamb for main, I cannot resist a lamb main and it was divine! For dessert, I had a rich dark chocolate torte. All of it was perfection. I would recommend a dinner at The Grand, it was worth every penny.

Our room, the first stay, was a junior suite with a sea view and had its very own balcony. The sun was not shining and we didn’t get to use it to its full capability, but on our second visit, we stayed in the Debussy Suite, with a large balcony, central of the hotel. This time, we had sunshine. It was beautiful. We played some cards, drank some wine and breathed in the fresh sea air in the sun. This was a real treat and the locals were right with the weather for this stay. The Grand website tells us ‘It was from this room that Debussy composed his symphony ‘La Mer’ in 1905.’ One thing that I do remember and should be noted, whilst this hotel is beautiful, it is still old and we could hear people walking around above us, but I think this is part of it’s charm and character. It’s not a place for a rowdy weekend, it’s more of a place for a break to a wonderful, idyllic, seaside stay.

We had a whirlpool bath and designer toiletries. This is another quirk that I love in this hotel group. Molton Brown is a real treat. The room had a bedroom and separate lounge, as well as the balcony. We had plenty of space and felt like VIPs here. The bed was a King Size and it was super comfy. You also have a coffee machine in your room and water. All rooms in the hotel have character and space. From the standard to the Penthouse room, you will be in a room you can be comfortable in and feel Grand in. Check in is 3pm and checkout is a very reasonable 11am.

All in all, this place made me feel very welcome and I would love to visit once again sometime. If you like a quiet town, by the seaside and a luxurious stay in a ‘Grand’ hotel, then this is definitely the place for you. Go and stay there and let me know what you think 🙂 Seeing is definitely believing.
