If you’re looking for old school feel, with a dash of quirkiness, then The Sylvan Post is definitely the place to go.
It doesn’t look much on the outside, in fact, it just looks like a post office. This is because that’s exactly what it used to be.
With a large open bar area with plenty of seating, this place is great for its weekly entertainment, especially the quiz on a Tuesday evening.
If you’d prefer to have your own area, they can do private areas in the shape of a snug or what they call ‘cosy corners’ for just that, or you can just grab them on a first come first served basis when you visit.
Features I like about this place, are the old vaults. They have 2 of these with the doors and one without the door, that I can see. They’re a little claustrophobic, but area great for a couple or small group to enjoy! They do also remind me of prison cells……. to look at.
Sylvan Post also does a cracking Sunday Roast, but they don’t do lamb, so they didn’t make my Best Sunday Roast list. Certainly not to stop you going as they are yummy and also at a very good price.
This bar also is children friendly, until 9pm. It doesn’t have a play are but it does have board games. These are also for the big kids! Who doesn’t love a Sunday Roast, a couple of pints and then board games?!
The pubs outdoor area is unfortunately out on the front along the main road, so not the most picturesque or even child friendly, but it does have the space all the same.
I like this pub because it doesn’t feel pretentious, the staff are always friendly and the atmosphere is welcoming. It always has customers and I’ve seen it at its busiest on a Sunday. They also allow dogs on leads, so gives it a homely feel.
Well done Sylvan Post, you made ‘Most Quirky‘.
It will be my starting point for the Forest Hill bar crawl, due to its location.
If you want quirky and fun, then this is the bar for you!
Have you been to the Sylvan Post? What did you think?
